As the project advances, many races will be sailed before the actual goal of this project is met. A report of each race will be published here.

A wiser man after the first solo race |
Bert doesn't know what to feel after his fist solo race in the Classe 6.50. He did quite well in the 300 nm Pornichet Sélect, despite the very low winds. He became 23rd in the series class, in a total of 53 competitors. He's looking at the result with a healthy level of scepticism, but the initial goal has been reached: finishing the race and hence taking the first step in qualifying for the Transat 650 in 2011. When he talks to the people at home right after crossing the finishing line at a terribly slow pace, Bert sounds very serious: "The last 7 miles have cost me 6 hours of just floating around, under the stinging sun. It was a matter of finding the best currents. Also, I've been at the helm myself for the last 24 hours. Nerve-wrecking in these conditions with very little wind. But ok, I won't forget about my début in the Classe 6.50 anytime soon ..." |

Sporty Volvo Antwerp Race 2009 |

Friday Octobre 2nd Felicity II set sail from Zeebrugge. A gentle breeze took Bert and Bruno Tobback to Terneuzen, the starting place for the Volvo Antwerp Race 2009. To be prepared for the action on Saturday, they practised many manoeuvres on the way and by the time they arrived, Bruno was a specialist Mini-gyber and -tacker. Once in Terneuzen they made the last preparations for the boat. Bruno proved to be an excellent ropedancer while putting the stickers on the bow of the boat. By the time Glenn arrived later that night, the harbour was entirely filled by about a hundred boats participating in the race. The Felicity II-crew resisted the temptation, however, and went to bed early. At around 8 o'clock (which was very early for some of the other crews) the boats left the harbour with strong currents at the harbour exit resulting in a spectacular view. A WSW mind force 5, increasing to force 6 was predicted: excellent conditions for a fast and (probably wet and) demanding race! Bert continues his story: |

A bizarre Light Vessel Weekend |
Friday (4/9) Glenn and I sailed to Breskens. We already knew that the evening race was postponed to Saturday morning, so we took our time to prepare the boat fully. When we left Zeebrugge, we had around 22 knots of W-wind. By the time we reached Breskens we had 34 knots of wind. We were blasting down the coastline and safely made it to the port. During the evening and night the wind reached gusts up to 40 knots. A very good decision of the race organisation to postpone the night race. |
