The Transat 6.50 allows mono-hulls with a total length of 6.50 meter. Because of the extreme sail area these boats can go very fast and are hard to sail. The ‘prototypes’ have just a few restrictions and are used to test new innovations. The ‘production boats’ have strict rules and the sailing skills are a very important factor.
